Clive was looking for an opportunity to develop his turf management skills and was delighted to take on the challenge of Head Groundsman at Exeter City Football Club. The role further developed with Clive becoming Head of Estates.

Following significant investment from the Club Clive project managed the remediation of poor soil profiles and the construction of completely new drainage systems to improve pitch performance. As with all improvements this meant the yearly maintenance regime needed to change with budgets being put in place to accommodate the new surfaces needs. Clive spent nearly 14 years developing not only the surfaces but also creating an effective grounds team department and is now contracted by the club to fulfil their management needs.
